Ultrahuman's Sleep Algorithm 2.0 uses machine learning trained on over 125,000 nights of Ring Air sleep data to score sleep stages, movement, HRV, and recovery. Ultrahuman ran its own in-house pilot study comparing sleep heart-rate detection against SleepImage (an FDA-approved medical-grade device) and Apple Watch across six volunteers over six days, reporting a mean absolute error of 2.4-2.6 percent, competitive with Apple's established benchmarks.

Worth knowing

That pilot study is real but limited: it was conducted and published by Ultrahuman itself, used only six participants, and compared heart-rate detection during sleep rather than full sleep-stage accuracy against polysomnography. Independent, peer-reviewed validation of Ultrahuman's sleep-staging accuracy specifically doesn't appear to exist in the published literature as of this writing, a real gap compared to Oura's more established research base.

A study tracking Cardio Age in 442 adult users over 12 months found the metric was highly consistent within individuals over time (median standard deviation of 1.21 years), and that the gap between Cardio Age and chronological age correlated with REM sleep, sleep duration, sleep efficiency, and daily steps, none of which feed directly into the algorithm, suggesting the estimate tracks real, independently-verifiable determinants of cardiovascular fitness rather than just recycling its own inputs.

Worth knowing

This is a real, if indirect, form of validation: consistency and correlation with known fitness determinants, not a head-to-head comparison against a clinical vascular-age measurement the way Oura's Cardiovascular Age has been tested against.
