Wearable Temperature Tracking

Your device never reports an absolute body temperature. It reports how far tonight's reading sits from your own personal baseline, and that deviation turns out to be genuinely informative for more than sleep.

Skin or peripheral temperature on a wearable isn't measured the way a thermometer measures it. Every device on this site builds a rolling personal baseline, typically over several weeks, then reports how far off that baseline last night's reading fell, not a number you could compare to a clinical 98.6°F reading at all. That deviation-based design turns out to carry real signal well beyond illness or sleep quality: research using this exact approach has tracked ovulation timing, flagged illness onset before symptoms, and even helped predict labor onset in pregnancy. This page covers what that research actually supports, and, just as importantly, what it doesn't: a wearable's temperature trend is not a diagnostic tool, and nothing here is a substitute for a pregnancy test, an ovulation predictor kit, or a clinician's read on a fever.

Both claims behind this metric are rated Established, an unusually confident starting position for a brand-new desk on this site: general agreement between wearable temperature sensors and reference-standard thermometry holds up well, and the deviation pattern itself tracks physiologically meaningful state changes, ovulation timing, illness onset, in a way that's been independently studied. That's a real, published finding, not a marketing claim. It is not the same as saying a wearable can tell you that you're pregnant, that you're ovulating today specifically, or that you have a fever requiring treatment, questions a pregnancy test, an ovulation predictor kit, or a thermometer plus clinical judgment are built to answer and a wearable trend line is not.
