Pixel Watch vs Galaxy Watch: Which Is More Accurate?

No price, no comfort, no "which should you buy." Just what each device measures, how well-validated that measurement is, and where the two genuinely diverge.

Pixel Watch and Galaxy Watch are the two leading Android smartwatches, and Google's search suggestions put each near the top of the list for the other. The evidence behind them is lopsided: Galaxy Watch has been independently tested far more often, for sleep apnea, atrial fibrillation, blood oxygen, sleep stages, calories and steps, while Pixel Watch's independent evidence covers heart rate, VO2 max, calories and one sleep-lab study. Where Pixel Watch has been tested, its heart rate sensor did very well. For depth on either device, see the full Google Pixel Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch profiles.

Which Measures Heart Rate More Accurately?

Google Pixel Watch

Pixel Watch 2 had a mean absolute error of 4.9 beats per minute against an ECG chest strap, one of the two most reliable of 10 wearables tested. Pixel Watch 3 was off by 2.39 beats per minute on average during treadmill exercise.

Samsung Galaxy Watch

The Galaxy Watch Active2 overestimated heart rate by 3.84 beats per minute on average against a Holter ECG, doing better during and after exercise than at rest.

Where the evidence actually differs

No study has tested a Pixel Watch and a Galaxy Watch together. The Pixel results come from newer models tested in 2026; the Galaxy result comes from a 2022 study of an older model, so the two figures describe different generations as well as different brands.

What independent research found

Both tested; Pixel results stronger

In 45 healthy adults tested at rest, under mental stress and while walking in neutral, hot and cold rooms, Pixel Watch 2 reached a mean absolute error of 4.9 beats per minute, a 6.7 percent average error and a concordance of 0.87 against an ECG chest strap, and the authors named it and the Fitbit Charge 6 the most reliable of the 10 devices (JMIR Formative Research, 2026). In 34 people on a treadmill, Pixel Watch 3 was off by 2.39 beats per minute on average, a 2.73 percent error (PLOS One, 2026). In 23 healthy adults, the Galaxy Watch Active2 overestimated heart rate by 3.84 beats per minute overall against a Holter ECG, with larger errors during rest and typing than during exercise (JMIR Formative Research, 2022).

Which Tracks Sleep More Accurately?

Google Pixel Watch

Tested once against a sleep lab, alongside the Galaxy Watch 5, in an 11-tracker study, where Pixel Watch was among the best at detecting deep sleep.

Samsung Galaxy Watch

Tested in the same 11-tracker study and in a dedicated sleep-lab study of the Galaxy Watch 3, which detected sleep well but scored stages at 65 percent accuracy and did not reliably estimate REM.

Where the evidence actually differs

This is the one area where both watches were tested in the same study, against the same sleep-lab protocol at the same two centres. Its summary singles out Pixel Watch for deep sleep and does not give a separate figure for the Galaxy Watch 5.

What independent research found

Both tested together

A multicentre sleep-lab study in 75 participants compared 11 consumer sleep trackers, including Pixel Watch and Galaxy Watch 5, against polysomnography. Stage agreement ranged widely across the 11, and the authors named Pixel Watch and Fitbit Sense 2 as the stronger wearables for deep sleep (JMIR mHealth and uHealth, 2023). In a separate study of 32 healthy adults, the Galaxy Watch 3 overestimated total sleep by 9.5 minutes, caught 95.4 percent of sleep but only 52.4 percent of wake, and classified the four sleep stages with 65.1 percent accuracy, with REM not reliably estimated (Journal of Sleep Medicine, 2023).

Can Either Screen for Sleep Apnea?

Google Pixel Watch

No independent study of Pixel Watch blood oxygen or sleep apnea detection is in the evidence behind this site.

Samsung Galaxy Watch

Detected moderate-to-severe sleep apnea with 94.1 percent sensitivity in 152 adults across two sleep-lab nights, and measured overnight blood oxygen within about 2.3 to 2.5 percentage points of the lab.

Where the evidence actually differs

This is Galaxy Watch's clearest evidence advantage. Three independent sleep-lab studies cover its blood oxygen and apnea detection; there is no equivalent published test of Pixel Watch.

What independent research found

Galaxy tested, Pixel not

In 152 adults with known or likely sleep apnea, each wearing a Galaxy Watch through two sleep-lab nights, the watch detected moderate-to-severe apnea with an area under the curve of 0.94, 94.1 percent sensitivity and 66.7 percent specificity at its default threshold (Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, 2026). Against the lab's oximeter, Galaxy Watch 4 blood oxygen showed a root-mean-square error of 2.54 percentage points in 51 adults (Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, 2024) and 2.3 percentage points with negligible bias in 97 adults with sleep disturbances, though 26.5 percent of readings were rejected, largely from changes in contact pressure (Sleep Health, 2022). Specificity in the 60s means a share of people flagged by the watch will not have moderate-to-severe apnea.

How Do the ECG and AFib Features Compare?

Google Pixel Watch

Has an ECG app and Irregular Heart Rhythm Notifications, according to Google's Pixel Watch support documentation. No independent accuracy study of Pixel Watch's ECG is in the evidence behind this site.

Samsung Galaxy Watch

The Galaxy Watch 3 detected atrial fibrillation with 85 percent sensitivity and 75 percent specificity in 201 cardiology patients, the same as Apple Watch 6 in the same study.

Where the evidence actually differs

The Galaxy result is a head-to-head clinical test against a 12-lead ECG. The same study tested a Fitbit Sense, whose ECG app comes from the company that also makes Pixel Watch, at 66 percent sensitivity and 79 percent specificity, but a Fitbit result is not a Pixel Watch result.

What independent research found

Galaxy tested, Pixel not

In 201 patients at a cardiology service, 31 percent of whom had atrial fibrillation, the Galaxy Watch 3 matched the Apple Watch 6 at 85 percent sensitivity and 75 percent specificity against a physician-read 12-lead ECG, with 17 percent of its tracings inconclusive. Manual review could read the rhythm on 99 percent of the single-lead tracings the algorithms could not classify (JACC: Clinical Electrophysiology, 2023).

Calories, Steps and VO2 Max

Google Pixel Watch

Pixel Watch 3 estimated VO2 max with almost no average bias but wide individual error, and calories with a 15.02 percent average error that varied a lot between people.

Samsung Galaxy Watch

Galaxy Watch 6 and 7 estimated calories during intermittent running within 10.10 to 12.55 percent on average, and Galaxy Watch 4 counted daily steps within 10.5 percent.

Where the evidence actually differs

The calorie figures are the closest thing to a like-for-like number: both were checked against indirect calorimetry, though in different exercise protocols, Galaxy in 148 adults doing intermittent running and Pixel in 34 people on a maximal treadmill test, and the Galaxy error was smaller. Only Pixel Watch has an independent VO2 max result.

What independent research found

Both tested, different measures

Pixel Watch 3's VO2 max estimate was off by 0.53 mL/kg/min on average but individual readings ran from 12.56 below to 11.50 above the lab value, an 8.65 percent average error, and its calorie estimate carried a 15.02 percent error with wide variation between people (PLOS One, 2026). Galaxy Watch 6 and 7 calorie estimates did not differ significantly from indirect calorimetry on average in 148 adults, with average errors of 10.10 to 12.55 percent (JMIR Formative Research, 2026), and Galaxy Watch 4 step counts were within 10.5 percent of a thigh-worn reference across a day, against 6.4 percent for Apple Watch 6 (Sensors, 2024).

Common questions

Is Pixel Watch or Galaxy Watch more accurate?

For heart rate, Pixel Watch has the stronger recent result: Pixel Watch 2 was among the two most reliable of 10 wearables against an ECG chest strap. For almost everything else, Galaxy Watch has more independent evidence, including sleep apnea detection at 94.1 percent sensitivity, AFib detection at 85 percent sensitivity, and overnight blood oxygen within about 2.5 percentage points of a sleep lab. No study has tested the two head to head except one 11-tracker sleep study.

Is Pixel Watch heart rate accurate?

Yes, by consumer standards. Pixel Watch 2 had a mean absolute error of 4.9 beats per minute and a concordance of 0.87 against an ECG chest strap in 45 adults, and Pixel Watch 3 was off by 2.39 beats per minute on average during treadmill exercise.

Can Galaxy Watch detect sleep apnea?

In 152 adults with known or likely sleep apnea, the Galaxy Watch detected moderate-to-severe apnea with 94.1 percent sensitivity and 66.7 percent specificity against two sleep-lab nights. It is a screening signal, not a diagnosis: a share of people it flags will not have moderate-to-severe apnea.

Is Galaxy Watch ECG accurate for AFib?

In 201 cardiology patients, the Galaxy Watch 3 detected atrial fibrillation with 85 percent sensitivity and 75 percent specificity against a 12-lead ECG, the same as Apple Watch 6 in the same study, with 17 percent of tracings inconclusive.

Is Pixel Watch or Galaxy Watch better for sleep tracking?

Both were tested in the same 11-tracker sleep-lab study, which named Pixel Watch among the stronger wearables for deep sleep without giving a separate Galaxy Watch 5 figure. A separate study found Galaxy Watch 3 scored the four sleep stages with 65.1 percent accuracy and did not reliably estimate REM.
